This blog regarding those buried at the Jewish Cemetery of Lubaczow, replaces blogs from 2013 and 2014.

Paint on decorations: Black
Traces of black paint from at least 75 years ago:
In this case, both the text but also the background of the crown are painted in black. Here it looks like the hands of the Kohen originally were painted black ( perhaps grey)
