Kohen in writing and as a symbol and as individuals

Descendants of the first High Priest Aharon HaKohen, brother of Moses, have a special status in religious life, even today. It is passed down from father to son.

 In Lubaczow I have found several graves for those who have this status.



For both women and men, the father's name is written like this in the Hebrew text:


Ester Sara daughter of Tovia Yaakov HaKohen


אסתר בת טוביה יעקב הכהן


Yitzchak Zeev son of Israel HaKohen


יצחק זאב בן ישראל הכהן


For the men, the two hands on the decoration symbolize the special Kohen blessing.
