One of very moving experiences around this project was meeting Shlomo Helsinger z"l, born 1917, who lived in Kfar Saba, Israel.
He told me that his father, a Sofer (scribe), died the year he himself had his Bar Mitzvah.
When I found this grave I knew I had to tell him right away. So with the help of my mobile phone I phoned Shlomo in Israel, and read him the text on the stone, standing next to it. I had brought two stones from Israel and put one on his father's gravestone.
Shlomo himself had left Lubaczow in the spring of 1941 when he was drafted into the Red Army. His mother and sisters cried when he left.
Before Shlomo was born in 1917, an older brother had fallen in World War I. It was clear what the fear of his family was.
Shlomo survived and moved to Israel , but his mother, his sisters and their families all became victims of Holocaust.
They were, as far as I was able to understand:
Josef Helsinger's wife Chana HELSINGER nee HARTMAN, born around 1880 in Lubaczow, daughter of Samuel and Szajndel HARTMAN.
Chana HELSINGER gave birth to eight children - two sons and six daughters. After her oldest son , name unknown to us, died in the First World War, she gave birth to Shlomo in 1917.
Her six daughters were:
Rechel Frimet LUDEN nee HELSINGER, born 1900,
married Salomon Dawid Shlomo LUDEN in 1923,
mother of
Samuel Jakob LUDEN born 1924
Mindel LUDEN born 1926
Josef LUDEN (born ca 1939)
The family lived in Tomaszow.
Sara HELSINGER , married to Jakob Potasznik
Mala Malka LUDEN nee HELSINGER born 1909,
married to Chaim Shmuel LUDEN.
Children?
Lived in Tomaszow.
Rachela HELSINGER, born 1910, married
Feiga Zipora EGERT nee HELSINGER born 1912,
married to Mordechai Moti EGERT
Matla HELSINGER , born 1915
Josef HELSINGER also had a brother named Avraham Aharon HELSINGER who was married to Sara.
Their children: Yaakov HELSINGER,married
Mindla HELSINGER, married
Szymon HELSINGER, married, father of two children, one
named Israel HELSINGER.
All these became victims of Holocaust.
